What sort of structures do we want to create in the 21st century?
Should we be rethinking the human scale?

Sean Wilkinson John Thackara Ian Abley Today, with new materials such as carbon fibre and super concrete the possibilities for how and what we can build are staggering. From inhabitable environmental domes and mile high towers to floating cities and the space elevator the only limit is our imagination. With new technology and spare capacity in the shipbuilding industry we could build megastructures such as the Thames barrier on the Tyne or the Wear and deliver them by sea. So, do we want to go large? What sort of structures and places do you want to live in? What sort of environment are we going to create for future generations?
